Fatal Heat by Lisa Marie Rice
Former Navy SEAL Max Wright is out of the Special Ops division forever after being almost killed by an Afghani RPG. He retreats to his former XO's beach house to lick his wounds. He wants to snarl at the world but finds it hard to snarl at his new neighbor, his XO's beautiful goddaughter, Paige Waring, who comes with a ridiculously likable, totally undisciplined dog.
As a plant geneticist, Paige has always been focused on her work, but when she and her dog run into Max, she recognizes the lonely, shattered man behind the rugged exterior. To her mind, sexiness always comes with a white lab coat, not with acres of tanned muscle and a military attitude.
When Paige's work makes her the target of criminals and she's abducted, Max springs into action. Though still terribly wounded, this tough- as-nails SEAL goes on his last mission—stopping at nothing to save the woman he loves.

Love and Loyality by Tere Michaels
Griffin Drake just wanted a story, but he finds himself wanting Jim Shea's heart, instead.
Detective James "Jim" Shea is a Seattle homicide detective who has never taken his work home with him--until now. A case has gotten under his skin and though it's "over," it isn't for Jim. The emotional toll has left him vulnerable and tied to the victim's dying father.
Meanwhile, Hollywood comes calling for a hot story, and screenwriter Griffin Drake sees the tragic case as his ticket to more serious fare than his usual action blockbusters. But to get the whole story he needs to win over the stoic and protective Detective Shea.
Neither man has had much luck when it comes to romance or long-term relationships and neither is particularly looking, but there's an attraction from their first meeting that can't be denied. Their impromptu first date seems to have no end in sight--and quickly becomes a barreling freight train of romance.
Looming problems outside threaten their relationship--death, secrets, and broken trust--and they'll have to learn loyalty to save their newfound love.

Good Luck.
Dan was putting up the new wanted posters he’d received yesterday, when he noticed a woman climbing out one of Ruby’s windows. She looked like the one who rode past him yesterday on the horse. He hadn’t seen her come back into town; but since there was an outstanding complaint against her, he figured he’d better find out.
He walked over and stood under the window, “Do you need any help miss?"
“No!” she shouted back over her shoulder.
He waited and watched her try to climb down the vine. She was a sight to watch, but he stifled his laughter. The vine gave way and she fell—right into his waiting arms.
“Let me down, you big brute,” Kelly squirmed for release.
When he dropped her to the ground, her skirt flew up around her thighs. A few young men stood near, grinning and watching the episode unfold.
“Ouch! You didn’t have to drop me.”
“You’re the one who told me to let you down. Not my problem you can’t stand on your own two feet,” his tongue was heavy with sarcasm.
A bigger crowd had now gathered around, with some of the women staring at Kelly and whispering. The men looked at her like she was their next feast.
When Dan turned his attention back to the little lady, still seated on the ground, he saw a cowboy striding over to help her. From the expression on the cowboy’s face it seemed all he wanted was to get a good look under her skirt. Dan blocked the cowboy’s access to the lady. “You better turn around and walk away or you’ll be in a cell tonight.” Dan helped the lady stand, but kept hold of her arm. “I have an arrest warrant against you for stealing Mr. Evans’ money. What’s your name and why did you take something that didn’t belong to you? Doesn’t Ruby pay you for working for her?” He walked Kelly toward the jail.
Kelly wanted revenge against the sheriff for embarrassing her in front of the whole town. Maybe I could flirt with him, steal his keys and break out of jail. He was devastatingly handsome, but she sure wasn’t going to tell him while he dragged her to jail.
Before they got to the jailhouse, Kelly felt her breasts straining against her blouse. If only she could find a real man, one that would satisfy the ache building inside her. Her intended groom, the man she’d run from, wasn’t that man. She’d gotten away from him when she’d stolen his mother’s favorite ruby necklace and took off with her brothers. Her brothers sold the necklace long ago and the money was gone now…along with her brothers. If they didn’t show up tonight, she didn’t know what she’d do. Once inside the jailhouse, the sheriff opened one of the cells and pushed her inside.
Dan closed the cell door but didn’t lock it. “We’re alone, are you going to tell me your name?”
“My name is Kelly and I don’t work at Ruby’s.” She ran her hands through her hair, “I had no place to sleep and with so many girls there, I figured no one would notice one more. Who’d notice another soiled dove? I took the money because I was hungry." Her jaw jutted forward in defiance.
Excerpt 2
Cassie watched the man bathe from up in the tree, she had never seen such a site. So much for having this place to myself, maybe the cabin belongs to him. She watched his long lean fingers stroke himself as she climbed down to the ground hoping to get a closer look.
Her cheeks turned bright pink but she couldn’t take her eyes off him. Cassie realized once she was on the ground the naked stranger was well over six feet tall and very muscular. She noticed every inch of him was large. This was the first time she’d seen a totally naked man. Cassie’s breath caught in her throat. It scared her, but excited her too. He was the sexiest man she’d ever seen. His hands on his shaft reminded her of the milking process at her father’s farm, how she would pull on Betsy’s teats and milk would shoot out. This was similar, but still she knew it was so much more. This was a man milking his seed.
Her dress clung to her body from dampness. Maybe the cool water of the river would cool her off. Moving closer she removed her dress hurrying into the water for cover, swimming away from him.
“Are you from around here?” When she didn’t answer him, he said, “Do you ever talk?”
“No, I am not from around here. And yes; I talk when I have something to say.” She swam further away.
“Are you always this rude to people?” Ben asked.
“No, only to cocky cowboys like you,” she said with a smirk.
“Hey, I only asked if you’re from around here and if you speak.”
Cassie couldn’t keep her eyes off his firm ass as she watched him walk toward the river- bank. She wanted to squeeze it, touch it, and lick it. Within seconds she let out a scream.
“What’s wrong lady, are you scared of a little river noise?’’
“No! I need help; I’ve got a cramp in my leg.”
Ben went back into the river, picked her up and carried her to the grass. Laying her down gently, he started to massage her leg. Pressing hard along the area of the cramp, it started to go away within minutes.
“Thank you for helping me cowboy.”
“Okay, my name is Ben Cooper and you are?”
“Cassie! Plain old Cassie.”
“Well just plain Cassie, did you want to finish bathing? You can borrow my soap if you don’t have any.”
“Yes, I’d like to borrow your soap, if you don’t mind.”
Excerpt 3:
Jake couldn’t get Sassy off his mind and he woke up growling like a nasty old bear. He’d spent the entire night tossing and turning. He certainly didn’t feel very social, so instead of sitting down for breakfast Jake grabbed a couple of luke-warm biscuits off the kitchen table and headed out the door without saying a word. Maybe if I keep busy these thoughts of Sassy will get out of my head.
He headed over to the stables to check on the new delivery of horses. Jake came up short when he noticed Sassy standing by the first horse stall. He gave her a brutal and unfriendly stare. “Start talking, but what could you possibly say to me that would make me forgive you?”
“Good morning to you too.” Sassy narrowed here eyes, “Slept well I see.”
He glared at her. ”Save the pleasantries. You rode all the way out here for somethin’ this mornin’.” He leaned against the stall gate waiting for her to explain herself.
“You know my dad didn’t approve of us seeing each other. He said you were too old for me, and you were nothing but trouble. Then Mrs. Stone caught us at the river when we…we were making love. She told my father that I’d been sleeping with all the Cooper men, so when he heard that he bought a train ticket and sent me away.”
“Not everyone listens to that gossiping old bag. I know the truth, that night was your first time.” Jake’s jaw flexed, his arms bunched with his anger.
“I wrote you letters, but I never heard back from you.”
“I never received any letters, far as I know you never sent them,” his voice was cold when he spoke. He didn’t like seeing her cry, but she’d hurt him. “I’ve moved on with my life and you should, as well.” Who am I trying to kid? I still ache for her.
She softened her voice, “The town has their fireworks show tonight would you take me?” Sassy asked.
“I’m busy tonight.”
Her shoulders fell as she exhaled a big breath, “I guess there is nothing more to say.” She started walking away.
His heart ached, his cock tingled, and his palms itched to touch her. He felt the restless anger rise again. “Okay, yea, I’ll take you, I’m sure your daughter will enjoy them also.”
“It’ll be late for her, my brother said he’d watch her.”
“If you want we could get there early I’ll even bring a picnic basket full of food for us,” Jake said.
“Sounds lovely, I don’t remember the last time I went on a picnic. I’ll meet you back here at six, okay?”
“Sure, see you then.” He stood in the same spot until she was no longer in sight.
Smiling, he went in the house. Tonight would be the night he’d get her out of his system—for good. It was her fault he was such a sexual deviant. Once inside the house he asked his sisters-in-law for advice. “What do you pack for a picnic supper ladies?
”Why you asking?” Cassie asked.
“Why, Jake,” Kelly smile, “you got a date?”
He scuffed his boot on the floor, “Ah… Hell, I’m taking Sassy to the fireworks tonight and thought we’d get there early. How about a desert too… maybe those brownies you make, Cassie.”
“Sure, but only if you say please.”
“Please, Cassie?”
“Okay, I’ll make them for you, since you asked so nicely.” The women shared a knowing smile as he disappeared into the other room.
Questions are:
1.What is Dan's job?
2.Why is Kelly in trouble?
3. Cassie spies on Ben doing what?
